Winter Wonderland

So I thought the locals were joking about the possibility of snow.  It's apparently no joke.  Yesterday the weather turned and it's been bitter cold since.  Gwendolyn has decided snow is no fun if you can't play in it.  When it's just swirling flakes it's more of a nuisance than something fun.  She loved the snow in Utah, but it doesn't really seem to want to stick here.  

We went to church yesterday and it was Mum's Day.  They gave out primroses and chocolate to all the moms and had a special combined relief society meeting for all the women in the ward.  The two young women in the ward took charge of the nursery which consisted of Gwendolyn and the bishop's daughter.  Sometime during the meeting Gwendolyn apparently started missing me and started calling for me so the young women went to look for me.  The bishop's daughter decided that she wanted her mom too so we ended up spending the rest of church in the nursery.  Jeremy even jumped on the wagon of an early mother's day and brought home some European chocolates for me.  Our ward is incredibly friendly.  I am surprised to say that England is even friendlier than Texas though the weather in Texas is much nicer, at least now it is.  Jeremy is by far the tallest guy in the ward, no surprise there.  I even have a visiting teaching route, not sure if our records have been received or not but they apparently were anxiously waiting for us since Jeremy's visit. The Bishop and his family had us over for dinner on Saturday so they're not wasting any time to get to know us and put us to work.

We have decided that maybe it is best if Gwendolyn and I stay back while Jeremy travels at the end of the month.  He really has a lot to do and it is probably going to be distracting otherwise.  Besides that he's traveling right before Easter break which is 3 weeks long here.  Prices all over Europe get incredibly high so we may save a trip to Rome till September when it will cost much less.  We are planning on taking a ferry to Amsterdam for a weekend next month for the tulip festival.  Gwendolyn rides free on ferries and trains for now so we have to take advantage of that while we can.  Hopefully after we buy a car, which the size of will be determined primarily by our driveway and the narrow streets here, we'll be able to do more exploring.  I have yet to get an advantage card which as a resident of Windsor we get for free and it gets us into the castle for free as well as gives us discounted parking and a lot of other fun perks.  All museums in London are free we found out today.  Once I've got Gwendolyn back on a normal schedule we'll probably do more outings.  Right now she's too tired to do much of anything and is not afraid to tell us.  Everything is fairly close by, but it's not safe to walk everywhere.  People drive crazy and the roads are narrow and busy all the time.  I will have to learn the bus system it looks like.
